Use of regressive artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods in modelling of COVID-19 spread

Opis projekta
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a highly infectious disease that has captured the attention of the worldwide public. Modelling of such diseases can be extremely important in the prediction of their impact. While classic, statistical, modelling can provide satisfactory models, it can also fail to comprehend the intricacies contained within the data. Artificial intelligence (AI) methods are trained directly on data, and adjust themselves to it, enabling them to extract the information not immediately apparent with classical methods, and include it in the final model. By using estimations provided by AI algorithms, the health officials of a country can choose the optimal strategy for dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. The aim of this research will be to find an optimal regression model for estimation of COVID-19 infection spread in three dimensions: number of COVID-19 infection cases, number of deceased patients and number of recovered patients. Specific Project Objective/s: Scientific/Technical Goal To find appropriate regression model for estimation of COVID-19 infection spread in three dimensions: ● number of COVID-19 infection cases, ● number of deceased patients and ● number of recovered patients. For each of aforementioned outputs, a separate regression model will be designed. Furthermore, each of the designed algorithms will be utilized alongside redundant algorithms in parallel architecture. Such configuration will be used for results confirmation. The final goal is the creation of predictive models, as well as the determination of the quality of models obtained through different techniques in an attempt not only to model the spread of COVID-19, but to determine the best possible regressive AI modelling techniques to be used in the future predictions of epidemic spread.
